2026 Mazda CX-90: A Three-Row Mazda for Bigger Families

The Mazda CX-90 is Mazda’s spacious three-row SUV, and Mazda says it was made with your comfort in mind. For 2026 it comes with an Inline 6 Turbo or as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). If you’re shopping for a family SUV between Annapolis and Baltimore, here’s a quick guide.

Seating for Seven or Eight

The Inline 6 CX-90 seats seven or eight, depending on whether it has a second-row bench or optional captain’s chairs. Every 3.3 Turbo and 3.3 Turbo S model has a 60/40 split three-person third-row bench. The CX-90 PHEV seats seven. Mazda notes that both second-row layouts make it easy to get in and out of the third row.

Cargo space on Inline 6 models with the three-person third row is 14.9 cubic feet with all seats up and up to 74.2 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. Family-friendly touches include standard Rear Seat Alert and USB-C charging outlets in the second and third rows on select models.

Inline 6 Turbo Power

The CX-90 uses an e-Skyactiv G 3.3-liter turbocharged Inline 6:

  • 3.3 Turbo: up to 280 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.3 Turbo S: 340 hp and 369 lb-ft with recommended premium fuel

Every CX-90 has a Skyactiv-Drive 8-speed automatic and standard i-Activ AWD. Mi-Drive includes Normal, Sport, Off-road and available Towing modes, and Kinematic Posture Control helps minimize body roll in corners. Towing capacity ranges from 3,500 to 5,000 lbs by model when properly equipped.

CX-90 PHEV: Plug In for Short Trips

  • Up to 323 hp total system power from a 2.5-liter engine and 68 kW electric motor
  • Up to 26 miles of all-electric range around town, and up to 500 miles of total range
  • EPA-estimated 56 MPGe combined
  • About 11 hours to charge on the included Level 1 cable, or about 2.5 hours with a Level 2 home charger
  • Mi-Drive adds an EV mode, and the PHEV tows up to 3,500 lbs when properly equipped
  • Three trims: PHEV Preferred, PHEV Premium Sport and PHEV Premium Plus

Safety and Tech

Standard i-Activsense features include Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring and Lane-keep Assist. Available features include a 360° View Monitor with See-Through View and Trailer Hitch View, Driver Monitoring, and Cruising & Traffic Support. Every CX-90 has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
