Rich Morton Mazda Testimonials A sincere THANK YOU to all our favorite customers!
Disappointing Experience at Morton Mazda - Overpriced and Unfair Trade-In Practices I recently visited Morton Mazda in search of a used vehicle suitable for my family. The SUV I found initially appeared promising, offering the features and comfort I needed. However, there was a significant discrepancy in the asking price, exceeding the average market value by more than $1,000. I attempted to negotiate a reasonable price adjustment, not expecting a dramatic discount but hoping for more than the mere “It’s already competitively priced” offered. To support my request, I presented the sales representative with five comparable listings, all priced over $2,000 lower. Despite this evidence, he maintained that their vehicle was "competitively priced," which was clearly not the case. In today's market, paying above market value is simply not a sound financial decision. The dealership's valuation of my trade-in was equally disappointing. While I acknowledge my vehicle is not in pristine condition, it is in good working order. Morton Mazda offered me $2,000 less than I anticipated. To verify their offer, I obtained an instant cash offer from the same source they use, receiving $1,500 more than their valuation. When I presented this information, the sales representative simply declined my offer, which was perplexing given that I was the customer. While I understand dealerships need to make a profit, the practices I experienced felt like a blatant attempt to overcharge and undervalue. The staff was courteous, and I have no complaints about their customer service. However, their insistence on "competitive pricing" and "best car" claims seemed to mask a strategy of maximizing profit at the expense of fair dealing. I strongly advise potential buyers to conduct thorough research before purchasing from Morton Mazda. Compare prices, obtain independent valuations, and be prepared to negotiate firmly. While they may be friendly, their pricing practices are questionable. I hope this detailed account helps you make an informed decision.
On 6 April my wife and I visited Rich Morton's Mazda with the intention of test driving a 2021 Passport. I believe it was priced on the website for $29k but had been listed on the lot for two years. We had found a similar vehicle in Frederick for $24k and we were hopeful that a motivated local seller and a similar price point would result in a sale of this Passport for $25k. We were upfront that we were looking for that price and had the cash to buy today. We test drove the vehicle with our salesman Joshua. With the sale price and our expected price differing so much, he had to confer with his manager. There were many back and forth conversations, but the outcome was an agreement of $25k, out the door, but we would need to finance it. The manager requested that we make payments for 3 months before paying off the vehicle in order for the dealership to get credit for financing. We were told that the vehicle needed to be reinspected after having sat so long, but we eventually were brought to the financing office to meet with Lenny. We were presented with a few pieces of paper, none of which were the loan agreement. We were told that the dealership would shop the loan and we would receive electronic agreements to sign. This was stated as a practice in place since COVID. We did sign a statement that Mazda had the right to negatively impact our credit in the event of loan non-payment, but we were never presented with a contract or a written price. We asked Lenny to check his system to be sure that the financing was still $25k and he did. He confirmed in the office that the price was $25k. We signed for the plates and were asked not to date the MVA paperwork, but nothing money related was given to us or signed. We left the office with nothing in writing with regard to the price or the loan, only assurances that electronic paperwork would be forthcoming. We were, of course, uneasy. We brought the Passport home that day and drove it until the 19th of April. We received a truth in lending notice from Mazda credit showing a total of $47,768 with interest of $13,267 which totaled a purchase price of $34,5001. After discussion between us, we drove to the dealership to deconflict the numbers, our expectation of financing $25k and Mazda's loan of $34,501. We spoke with the manager on duty and Lenny. Both initially thought that the difference could be explained by tax, title, and tags, but after discussion, we all concluded that the numbers were too far apart for that. My wife and I both agreed that even if we had misunderstood about taxes, title, and tags, we would have paid the difference, but the gap between the agreed upon price and financed price was too large to be explained. Tax, title and tag for $25k would have been, worst case, 25000 x 1.06 +100 title+ 225 tags + 500 dealer processing or $27,325. The manager on duty, and Lenny were unable to verify how much had been financed, explaining that they were unable to query the financing system without assistance of staff members that were not onsite. They recommended that we return on Monday to discuss with the appropriate staff members. This leaves us with a question. How was a loan taken out in our names for a dollar figure that was neither conveyed to us, agreed upon by us, or signed for by us? We are confident this is a mistake and look forward to clearing this up Monday, but the outcome remains; a loan was taken in our names that we did not agree to. Monday, we spook to the original manager that we had made the 25K agreement with, he simply stated they would be taking the car back and said nothing else. We returned the Car, signed a paper that stated it has been returned and nothing owed. My suspicion is that the only reason they took the car back is there was already a similar lawsuit being pursued another party.
DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM HERE! Don’t even visit, no matter how good the deal might look, and especially as a Black/woman/mom. For context, I worked with Mike Hamilton, who is a liar. They have shady business practices, sold me a car that was a dud in the shop, told me they’d fix it, delivered it to me (which i had to ask for) still not working properly!!! The door didn’t open (which I 1000% believe Mike knew, but did his best to hide it during his presentation of the vehicle!) So I’ve had to take time from work multiple times and use my gas to bring it back for them to “fix it”. And it’s still not fixed (the door still doesn’t open and my cold air is still blowing warm while it’s 90 degrees outside) so I’ll have to take more time and use more gas in the coming weeks. No way this car was ever TRULY inspected, and if it was I’m sure they did a cash to hand deal for it to pass. I even offered to forfeit my down payment and any fees for their time / processing, still no, so I’m stuck in a crappy deal! Since it was LESS THAN 24 HOURS after they delivered the car to me that I started having issues, I asked them to please take this car back. Of course, they declined. So I’m left super disappointed and had the car not been in the shop for 3 days after I bought it my bank could / would have cancelled the transaction. BUYERS BEWARE!!!
I would like to thank Mike Hamilton for his help and patience. After having been to several dealers he was eager to answer our questions and help in any way he could. More so than some others. He is friendly and makes you feel comfortable through the whole process. I highly recommend Mike and Rich Morton Mazda.
Great bunch of guys. Our salesman was Josh he was wonderful Thanks Josh. We got a 2016 Joshua.
I recently had the pleasure of working with Lenny and Debbie in the finance department at Rich Morton Mazda. The experience was exceptional, and their professionalism and expertise truly stood out. Lenny demonstrated a deep understanding of the financial aspects of purchasing a vehicle. He patiently walked me through the financing options, explaining each detail clearly and ensuring that I had a comprehensive understanding of the terms. His transparency and willingness to answer all my questions instilled confidence in the financial aspect of my car purchase. Debbie, on the other hand, was instrumental in streamlining the paperwork and documentation process. Her attention to detail and organizational skills were evident as she efficiently handled the necessary paperwork. Despite the often complex nature of finance in the automotive industry, Debbie made the process smooth and hassle-free. Together, Lenny and Debbie created a positive and stress-free financing experience. Their dedication to customer satisfaction was apparent, and I felt valued throughout the entire process. I highly recommend working with Lenny and Debbie for anyone looking for a seamless and customer-centric financing experience at Rich Morton Mazda.
Since I purchased my CX3, all of my service appointments have been easy to schedule. Once I just stopped by with a concern and they had a technician look at what I was worried about. There was no problem and no charge from them. The work is always completed in a timely fashion, and any questions on my part are addressed. They always discuss any concerns about my vehicle, and even make a video of their inspections. Wow!
I bought a 2000 Chevy Camaro Z28 from the Dealer's personal collection. It is spotless and she is a dream to drive. I am in love! Well done Rich Morton. And I love Rich Morton Mazda! Ken Mason was a great resource (he promptly called me back) and Tim took such good care of me (he emailed me regularly to let me know that the car was still available). Tim also let me know how to take off and store the T-top. He also knew what the loose part was that I found in my new car, before I drove it off the lot. I would buy another car from Tim any day!
Normally I bring all my cars to the service department here. Keith is awesome, takes time to explain things , gives a fair price. Well today there was someone new. Named Ashley I think ( she couldn't be bothered to introduce herself) Was just there for a basic service and she tells me I need front breaks and it's 600 dollars . Then sends me a text message estimate( I was waiting at dealership) and it says 700. I tried to ask why so much and she couldn't stop shoving doughnuts in her mouth to properly explain anything. Also griefed me about asking about coupons and just short of eyerolling me as if I'm annoying her asking about price breakdown. I won't be returning. I didn't care for her evasiveness, her annoyance when I interrupted her doughnuts and coffee or that she was particularly honest with me. Really disappointed as I've recommended them a few years now. Keith is amazing but this new person is very off-putting.
Kyle Thompson was outstanding. I took my wife to the dealership to test drive a BMW, which she’s been wanting for a while. Within an hour he was able to get her attached to the Mazda CX9. I’m not sure how he did, but he deserves alot of recognition. My wife isn’t that easy to please and he did it within a blink of an eye. Thanks again Kyle!
Mike Hamilton was our salesman. He was knowledgeable, courteous, and very friendly. We had a GREAT buying experience. He even lead us to the easiest path home. Keep up the great work Rich Morton Mazda.
Had fuel pump replaced, recall. Now car smells like gas on the interior. Told by service department. "I don't know what else you want me to do". The gas smell is only from one reason, a leak somewhere. Prior to Morton touching the car it didn't smell like gas. Hmmm?
I purchased a 2008 Porsche Boxster on or around September 22, 2022, the original deal was not terrible, but there were several punch list items that the salesman agreed to fix as part of the sale and to be included in the contract (radio did not work, agreed to fix or replace; air filter under dashboard was filthy and spit out dirt into the car; there were 2 warning alerts on the dashboard that he agreed to clear; the convertible top needed sleeves to cover the cable on either side of the car). I agreed to buy the car with those items corrected. I waited and waited for service to be provided, it never was provided, the car was left to sit on Morton's parking lot for a total of SIX WEEKS with NO SERVICE. I stopped by the dealership many times and called and texted the salesman many times and finally visited the general manager to inquire why my car was getting not attention, I never got a straight answer, the Porsche specialist was in the hospital and was overworked , the radio man never came to see the car, they were waiting for a part for the convertible top, they never addressed the failure to put in a fresh air filter. So I went to visit the car, it sat so long that now the battery wouldn't start and when I tried to start it with my key, the key became stuck in the ignition and NOONE, not the service manager, not the salesman, no one could remove the key and start the car. So I waited another week until Porsche specialist came to the dealership and finally started the car, but he didn't provide any other service described above and agreed to by the salesman as a condition for my purchase. So finally, I just went over and took my car home and will have to pay for the things myself that Morton agreed to fix, they dishonored there own contract with me, I have no respect for that dealership, make sure you have all service agreed to completed before you complete a contract with Morton Mazda!!
jason and ryan helped me get into my new car. It was quick and easy
This is my third car I’ve purchased from Rich Morton Mazda and each time Shan Marfani made sure I had the perfect car for me and made it so easy and simple I wouldn’t go anywhere else!
TLDR: Be careful of the finance department of this dealership. Read everything you sign, triple check everything. While the salespeople are friendly and are reasonable, you can get royally screwed by the finance department. Either avoid this dealership altogether or if you absolutely have to shop here, be extremely vigilant on what you are signing. They will sneak in all kinds of fees in there, not disclose them to you, they will try to fool you with the payment amount, they may match the payment amount to your liking, but will increase the number of payments, while hiding it from you. Here is what happened to me. As soon as we agreed on a price for a used Lexus LX570, $40,800, the credit was run, approved for 60 months, and I was asked to talk to the financing person in another room. Lenny was the name of the finance person if I am not mistaken. He acts like he is having a bad day everyday and you are at fault for asking any questions. At this point, all I know is the price of the vehicle and the the loan rate, and nothing else. The finance guy tells me to sign some 4-5 blank papers (One about the mileage, another is the bill of sale, selling as is, etc), the typical papers you sign, except blank! His explanation was that if I make any mistake on any of these papers, it may result in delays in issuing the permanent license plate, meanwhile my temporary license plate may expire sooner than they can issue the permanent one, while the potential errors are being fixed. For this reason he insisted that I leave everything blank, including the dates. Anything I ask (like what are the final numbers for interest, tax, dealer fee, etc) he acts super annoyed and tells me all of the papers will be available electronically for me to review later. He refuses to answer any question by passing me to the sales people, or telling me to call the bank and ask them, or just outright telling me I am asking too many questions that he has no answers. At the conclusion he hands me a USB drive which supposedly contains "everything" for me to review at home. After I kindly insisted on showing me what I signed, he prints out the bill of sale. Turns out the total price of the vehicle was some $13,000 more than the agreed 40,800 with no itemization the price. I am strictly talking about the price of the vehicle and not the interest, license plate fee, dealer's fee, which are listed separately. Some 13,000 extra fees! Some 2,000 was supposed to be the tax (I am estimating because there was no way to know) but the rest made absolutely no sense, other than more "dealer's fees" were added. Moreover, They put 84 payments instead of the 60 that we had initially agreed. They added Gap insurance, which I had clearly declined. When I asked why was this added, they tell tell me otherwise your interest rate would have been higher (nonsense). I literally begged everyone on that floor to explained me what these number are, their answer is that I should go check out their website for their dealer's fees. When I complained to the floor manager (Don Burke) about the attitude of the finance guy and that he had me sign blank papers only for me to discover all of these surprises later, the manager justified him saying that it is a normal practice to hand over blank papers to customers to sign and that the finance guy had no way of answering my questions. After spending 8 hours at the dealership, I had them cancel everything and walked out. Hopefully I don't get a call from a collection agency in the future about some loan that was assigned to me. To conclude there is some serious fraud going on in this dealership. It's probably occasional but consistent. They have systemic issues that need to be looked at. I highly doubt making people sign blank papers is legal. But good luck if you end up shopping here because you will need it.
I had a great experience buying my 2015 300S Chrysler. The sale woman were awesome and the manager truly worked with me in bring down the price of the car. Bravo Zulu to the saleswoman, very professional and stand behind their words. Out of 1 to 10, I give a overall 10…! 👏
Never had a experience this bad. Let’s start, I was interested in a used vehicle they had. Requested information from Autotrader. The salesman Richard was assigned to me, and he made absolutely no attempt to help me in anyway. I called and texted him to no avail on getting answers on the vehicle I wanted. He would read my texts then completely ignore them. 2 days went by until I had enough and asked for a new salesman. Was then assigned to Mike Hamilton, he was better at getting back to me, answering me and getting me into the door. Once I arrived, I test drove the vehicle like it and came inside to make a deal. (Note before I came in I also applied for the credit app so no issues would come up and the buying process would be easier.) Once we sat down Mike was extremely rude, I didn’t know the paid off to my vehicle but Mike made comments of “You don’t know the payoff, but you probably do and you don’t want to say.” Then comes the slap in my face, KBB has my trade in at 51-53k and I’ve already been offered 52k at other reputable dealerships which I’ve told them. They continue to offer me 45-46k. Yes you read that right, $6,000 under what my vehicle is actually worth. I’ll be sure to share my experience to help as many people that I can stay away from this scamming dealership. Be smart, save thousands and shop elsewhere.
Everyone was welcoming and friendly as soon as I walked in to the building. I got there at 7pm. I walked in and asked to take a look at a 2018 Pacifica and immediately Shan Marfani went to get the keys and moved the car over to the front doors. I also ask if it was possible if I can take a test drive due to it being kinda late but with no hesitation Shan had went to get a tag and next thing you know he gave the keys and said “Enjoy.” I pulled back in at 7:15 and me and the wife loved the car. We had seen two prior pacificas but we just didn’t have the “feeling” of it being the one until this one. The first one was at Carmax in White Marsh which was a 2018 lower trim but more expensive with super low miles which was nice but the center drop down DVD player wasn’t operating, the second was a 2020 limited in Brooklyn, NY and that one had missing uconnect headphones, no vacuum hose for the stow and vac, no second spare key, a small tear in the headliner, overall not the best feeling when I sat in it. Not to mention the dealership tried to tack on extended warranty and wouldn’t sell the car unless it is bought. Anyways I’m steering away from my main experience. Once we parked I told Shan we liked it and let’s see how the finance works so we began the paperwork. The dealership itself is definitely family friendly, as there is a kid play area designated for them and the awesome muscle/classic cars for sale was a great place for someone who is into cars just to look at. The kids were occupied as we were waiting for the return of lenders. Shan came back and said I had a few lenders but would try to find the best rate. Now my rate was okay, but right before we signed the paperwork. Tom (I think he was the GM) came over and we had a realistic conversation, agreed to the price shook hands and next thing you know he was able to secure even a lower rate than my initial approval of 1% less than that approved rate right before heading over to Ginger to finish the paperwork. I was out the door of the dealership by 8:50 pm and had a photo taken of us with the car at 9pm. Overall the process was so fast and easy with no complaints. I never felt intimidated or pressured to buy GAP insurance or extended warranty or anything like that from this group. I highly recommend coming here to look at your cars. The price point is fair here so you won’t get a “great deal” or “overpriced deal” it’s just price right which I had no problem paying because the condition of this Pacifica was immaculate. Overall me, the wife and the kids love it. It wouldn’t have happened either if I didn’t shop around and see the prior two Pacificas to know that this was the better one in the better condition with all the little things like unconnect headset, second key fob, dvd remote. (Which was what I was looking for in this car since it is supposed to come with it). Thanks again for reading, I hope you will have the same experience as us. Thanks to Shan, Tom, and Ginger for making the process easy!
Brianna Jacob’s & Emad Khanlarbig we’re wonderful! They went over and beyond to get me the color and options I wanted on my new CX 5. I’m more than happy and I highly recommend them and Rich Morton Mazda!!
Of course, Silverado needs looked at because it’s got a 7th cylinder misfire. then the dealership I bought it from barely 3 months ago, Rich Morton Mazda in Maryland, is trying to say it’s not going to be covered under my warranty with whatever Casey has to do to fix it because my warranty only will be effective if the dealership I bought it from in Maryland fixes it. This place has given me nothing but trouble, still can’t even get the truck registered in VA because they didn’t have paperwork from who they bought it from when they sold it to me, and still can’t get it. Got half a mind to just bring the xxxx thing back. This place is a joke man and I’m about over it.
It sucked. They've been advertising this vehicle for a while and when I go down to look at it it's in the shop getting work done on it. Why put it up for sale if it's not ready to be sold?.
Had the BEST experience at Rich Morton Mazda..thanks to Emad New car manager he went over and above getting me financed through Mazda never thought I would be able to get 3.99. Then my salesman Rich Wade was excellent to deal with. He got me the exact car that I wanted plus once the car came in he came in on his day off to deliver my CX5 and go over Everything about my car. Thanks to the Rich Morton team. Nice job!!!!
Richard Wade is a awesome salesperson . Got me my car and the process was nothing but smooth. I recommend Salesman Richard Wade
Best used car buying experience I have had in almost 20yrs. There was no hidden agenda, sales person was down to earth. I had been to several other dealers and this was the first one that actually validated what my needs were.
